Welcome to our PopUpMarket page – full website is now in development and we hope to launch this very soon. In the meantime, we have two projects underway:
Dudley: supporting local residents to develop skills of entrepreneurship through markets
Birmingham: a new exciting venture with SEWM CIC to support local enterprises to retail their goods and support people into employment via our special Christmas “Xmas Fares and Wares” PopUpMarket coming December 2012.
What is the PopUpMarket Project?
PopUpMarket is a new social project from Cloudberry aimed at encouraging young people and communities to get an experience of social entrepreneurship. As the name suggest, market stalls will “pop up” at existing community markets and be available at a subsidized rate for young people to manage, sell goods and do social good in the process. We also will be running a series of retail led PopUpMarkets to promote social entrepreneurship.
The PopUpMarket Project will provide an ideal low cost, low risk, environment for young people to experience retailing goods with a social or environmental impact or goods they have produced; we will also consider projects that are around fundraising too.
Why is the PopUpMarket needed?
- UK Youth Unemployment Rate stands at 21% and is increasing, with some areas approaching 30% in Birmingham.
- Graduate unemployment stands at a record high.
Our PopUpMarkets willy provide a supportive environment giving young people the opportunity to learn about business start up and social enterprise, as well as gaining, confidence, experience in retail and the drive to achieve more. Working with our partners we will highlight the potential of the PopUpMatket to create employment and skill development.
When will the first PopUpMarket run?
Our aim is to have our next PopUpMarket running in Dudley in the Autumn of 2012 and in Birmingham in December 2012..
How will it work?
In Dudley, eligible people will be provided with:
- A market setting to trial retailing their goods
- Training
- Peer support
- The period of support is for up to 3 months.
To qualify for the project you must be enrolled a specific employment project in Dudley (contact us for details)
In Birmingham, eligible social enterprises will be supported to retail their goods – more details available soon, but to reserve a space at the “Xmas Fares and Wares” PopUpMarket please “Register for PopUpMarket Christmas Event” or complete our expression of interest form or to chat about the project complete our contact form (contact us)

I think we need to do something creative to help the local situation. Ladywood has the highest levels of youth unemployment in the UK- maybe some of us who live here could offer support to help you get this off the ground.
…and it would be good to get local businesses and groups involved to.
A brilliant concept! it would be great to see this rolled out in every city/town
Hi Nina, we do have some plans to take the project to Dudley…we will be making an announcement about that soon. Thanks for the interest and enthusiasm!
